Dentsply Sirona ehrt exzellenten Zahnmediziner-Nachwuchs
Große Bühne für talentierte Zahnmediziner in spe: Die diesjährigen Preisträger des Global Clinical Case Contest waren eingeladen, ihre eingereichten Fallstudien auf einem Fachkongress in Madrid vorzustellen.
Mit dem Global Clinical Case Contest (GCCC) würdigt Dentsply Sirona Restorative jedes Jahr Studenten für ihre exzellenten Behandlungsergebnisse in der ästhetischen Zahnmedizin. Teilnehmen können Studierende der Zahnmedizin mit weniger als zwei Jahren klinischer Praxiserfahrung, indem sie einen Patientenfall mit Foto und Text dokumentieren. In der Regel benennt die Universität einen Tutor, der den Teilnehmern während des gesamten Prozesses mit Rat und Tat zur Seite steht. Bei Bedarf können die Studierenden auf die gesamte Dentsply Sirona Restorative-Produktlinie zugreifen.
Die Bewerbungen werden zunächst bei den nationalen oder regionalen Wettbewerben eingereicht. Die Gewinner qualifizieren sich automatisch für den globalen Wettbewerb, für den dieses Jahr 13 Finalisten zusammenkamen. Die Jury, bestehend aus Dr. Rainer Seemann, Vice President Global Clinical Affairs, und zwei externen Experten, Dr. Gaetano Paolone aus Italien und Dr. Ian Cline aus Großbritannien, wählte die drei Preisträger aus.
Uwe Walker (Universität Tübingen, Deutschland) erhielt den ersten Preis für die ästhetische und funktionelle Korrektur von erosiven und abrasiven Zahndefekten. Der zweite Preis ging an Yannis Génique (Universität Bordeaux, Frankreich) für eine Frontzahnrestauration, bei der ein Schneidezahn neu geformt und Kompositrestaurationen ersetzt wurden. Den dritten Preis erhielt Mariangela Cernera (Universität Federico II, Neapel, Italien) für ihre Erneuerung mehrerer Kompositrestaurationen der Klasse II. Die Gewinner erhielten jeweils eine individuell gravierte SmartLite Pro Lampe. Auf die Frage, was ihn zur Teilnahme am Wettbewerb motiviert habe, antwortete Uwe Walker: „Mein Fall hatte aufgrund der verschiedenen Behandlungsaspekte viel Potenzial. Außerdem war es hilfreich für meinen Patienten, der sich ohne die Teilnahme am Wettbewerb keine vollständige Rehabilitation hätte leisten können.“
Einladung nach Madrid
Die drei Gewinner des GCCC 2019 wurden zum Kongress der Continental European Division der International Association for Dental Research eingeladen, der im September in Madrid (Spanien) stattfand. Leider konnte nur Mariangela Cernera persönlich daran teilnehmen.
Seitdem Dentsply Sirona den Wettbewerb 2004 ins Leben gerufen hat, haben fast 4.000 Studierende am GCCC teilgenommen. In diesem Jahr fand der Wettbewerb bereits zum 14. Mal statt; 1.242 Bewerbungen wurden von insgesamt 140 Universitäten aus aller Welt eingereicht. Mit dem GCCC unterstützt Dentsply Sirona nicht nur die nächste Generation von Zahnärzten. Er fördert auch das Interesse am Austausch untereinander und die Möglichkeit, Präsentationstechniken zu üben.
