Bei Dentsply Sirona wird soziales Engagement großgeschrieben. Zahlreiche Projekte auf der ganzen Welt wurden bereits durch großzügige Sach- und Geldspenden unterstützt, um eine bessere Zahnversorgung weltweit zu ermöglichen. Vier davon stellt Spotlight näher vor.
Nordamerika: Unterstützung des größten gemeinnützigen Zahnpflegevereins
Die „Mission of Mercy“ ist das größte Charity-Event in den Vereinigten Staaten. Innerhalb von zwei Tagen wurden im April über 2.900 Patientinnen und Patienten kostenfrei behandelt, was einer Spendensumme von 2,7 Millionen US-Dollar entspricht.
Dentsply Sirona stellte 16 Schick-Sensoren, ein Orthophos XG 3D ready Gerät, ein Orthophos XG 5 sowie Materialien für Aufbiss und Befestigung, dutzende Kabel, Stecker, Steuerelemente und sonstiges Zubehör für Röntgenuntersuchungen, endodontische Verfahren, Restaurationen und die Kinderzahnpflege. John Pauley, Intra-Oral Sales Manager, koordinierte den Einsatz der Schick-Sensoren auf dem Event. Der Extra-Oral Sales Manager Andrew Bretko kümmerte sich währenddessen um den Aufbau der Panorama- und Hybridröntgengeräte und erklärte den Freiwilligen die Bedienung. Die anwesenden Ärztinnen und Ärzte waren von der Qualität der Röntgenbilder begeistert.

Asien: Dentsply Sirona China aktiv in Kambodscha
Nur sechs Kilometer entfernt vom Tempelkomplex von Angkor Wat liegt die Stadt Siem Reap, in der 170.000 Menschen leben. Trotz der Nähe zu einer atemberaubenden Sehenswürdigkeit haben dort viele Kinder keinen Zugang zu einer auch nur grundlegenden Zahnversorgung.
Ein Team aus sechs Zahnärzten und 30 Studierenden der Western International School of Shanghai (WISS) reiste im März nach Siem Reap, um sich um die Zahngesundheit der Anwohner zu kümmern. Die Reisekosten von vier der sechs Zahnärzte wurden von Dentsply Sirona China übernommen.
In den zwei Behandlungsräumen der Zahnklinik vor Ort war praktisch nichts vorhanden – es gab dort weder einen Generator noch fließend Wasser. Die normale Vorsorge fand unter freiem Himmel statt. Das Team der Freiwilligen aus China arbeitete bei Temperaturen von 38-41 °C in Zehn-Stunden-Schichten. Insgesamt wurden so 617 Patientinnen und Patienten versorgt. Voller Stolz blickt Dentsply Sirona China auf seinen Anteil an dieser Hilfsaktion zurück.
Nordamerika: Dreifache Mutter kann wieder lächeln
Das Programm Donated Dental Services (DDS) des gemeinnützigen Vereins Dental Lifeline Network (DLN) aus den USA bietet Menschen mit Behinderung, Rentnern und Kranken, die es sich sonst nicht leisten könnten, eine kostenlose Zahnbehandlung. Lesen Sie die Geschichte von Ellen, einer dreifachen Mutter, die dank des Einsatzes von Zahnarzt Dr. John Cummins und der Unterstützung von Dentsply Sirona wieder lächeln kann.
Seit einer traumatischen Hirnverletzung, die sie bei der Geburt ihres jüngsten Kindes erlitten hat, leidet Ellen unter schwerwiegenden Bewegungsstörungen. Sie musste das Gehen, Essen und Sprechen erst wieder neu erlernen. Ihr fehlten Zähne, sie benötigte mehrere Implantate und eine neue Brücke. Dr. John Cummins, Helfer bei DDS, meldete sich freiwillig für diese Aufgabe. Dank der Unterstützung von Dentsply Sirona war die Behandlung im Wert von insgesamt 10.000 Dollar möglich. Am Muttertag zeigte Ellen zum ersten Mal wieder ihr Lächeln.
Zu Tränen gerührt, sagte sie: „Mein Lächeln ist ein Geschenk für alle, die mich auf meinem schweren Weg unterstützt haben. Jetzt kann ich endlich wieder richtig lächeln.“

Afrika: Hilfe für Kinder aus dem Senegal
Dentsply Sirona unterstützt das ehrenamtliche Engagement des deutschen Bilbassi e. V. und des Zahnarztes Dr. Oliver Krauß in einem Krankenhaus der Küstenstadt M‘Bour, ca. 80 Kilometer südlich der senegalesischen Hauptstadt Dakar.
Der Verein Bilbassi unterstützt die senegalesische Bevölkerung seit über 20 Jahren in Sachen medizinische Versorgung. Seit 2006 wird ein Krankenhaus in der Küstenstadt M‘Bour systematisch mit Medikamenten und Medizingeräten versorgt. Was zu Beginn ein Kinderkrankenhaus mit nur wenigen Zimmern war, umfasst nun 140 Betten, eine OP-Abteilung mit zwei OP-Sälen, eine Röntgenabteilung und ein Labor.
Vor Kurzem kam auch noch eine Zahnklinik dazu. „Die Hilfe von Herrn Dr. Oliver Krauß kam genau zur richtigen Zeit“, betont Albert Pantle, Vorsitzender des Vereins. Dr. Krauß stammt aus dem deutschen Wetzlar und hat dem Verein eine Behandlungseinheit gespendet. Dentsply Sirona stiftete weitere Instrumente für das Projekt, darunter erstklassige T1-, T2- und Endo-Instrumente. Dank der großzügigen Spenden von Dr. Krauß und Dentsply Sirona „können Patientinnen und Patienten jeden Alters nun endlich die bestmögliche Zahnbehandlung in unserem Krankenhaus bekommen", so Albert Pantle.
