Il team di Wellspect sta implementando metodi di Lean Product Development (LPD) in tutta l'organizzazione. Questo articolo spiega i principi del Lean, la sua storia e il modo in cui i dipendenti lo utilizzano.
I metodi Lean sono stati usati da Wellspect per anni nel comparto produzione e più recentemente nella Ricerca&Sviluppo. Nel 2018, è stato deciso di formare tutti i dipendenti ad un approccio Lean dello sviluppo del prodotto, al fine di rafforzare la capacità di lanciare nuovi prodotti più rapidamente, raggiungendo la media di 1,5 nuovi prodotti all'anno.
Il metodo Lean è una filosofia che mira a massimizzare il valore per il cliente - sviluppare i giusti prodotti che fanno la reale differenza - minimizzando allo stesso tempo lo spreco di risorse utilizzate attraverso miglioramenti continui. Il Lean ha le sue origini nella produzione. La Toyota Motor Corporation ha adattato i concetti della linea di produzione di Ford nel proprio Toyota Production System, che ha spostato l'attenzione dall'uso delle singole macchine al flusso del prodotto durante l'intero processo.

L'attenzione di Dentsply Sirona all'ottimizzazione dei flussi di lavoro per i clienti è radicata nella stessa filosofia Lean. Il termine stesso è stato coniato per la prima volta da un gruppo di ricerca del “Mit’s International Motor Vehicle Program" alla fine degli anni '80.
Strumenti e principi Lean sono applicabili ben oltre la produzione e sono stati applicati in molte aziende appartenenti a diversi settori di attività. La filosofia del Lean Product Development comprende tre componenti: mentalità, struttura e strumenti. La mentalità riguarda l'attenzione al cliente, la condivisione delle conoscenze, la riflessione su come ridurre gli sprechi e il continuo ripensamento dei processi volto al loro miglioramento. La struttura, che suddivide i progetti sui singoli gruppi di lavoro, mira a creare flussi che supportano questa mentalità. Wellspect utilizza strumenti come l'analisi del gap di conoscenza e la pianificazione visiva su schede, nonché il cosiddetto Scrum framework che aiuta i team a lavorare insieme.
Lavorare con i metodi Lean ci ha aiutato a identificare le lacune conoscitive in una fase precedente a quella dello sviluppo del prodotto. Siamo quindi in grado di pianificare in anticipo, colmare eventuali carenze e fare ulteriori progressi in modo più rapido. Uno dei nostri più recenti successi con il Lean è stato quello di coinvolgere maggiormente gli utenti nella fase iniziale dello sviluppo delle confezioni per LoFric Elle, il primo catetere al mondo con impugnatura, progettato per le donne e lanciato di recente. Il risultato è stato un packaging più intuitivo.
C'è anche un focus sulla formazione dei team per utilizzare il processo A3, così chiamato per i fogli di carta di formato A3 su cui vengono comunicate le informazioni critiche. Hanno anche tenuto diversi "A3-vernissages" per aiutare a condividere le conoscenze e stanno pubblicando una iLean Newsletter che riassume i recenti progressi, insieme a informazioni e interviste sul fondamento logico alla base del cambiamento nei processi di lavoro.
Wellspect ha anche introdotto l'iLean Award, che mira a incoraggiare i principi fondamentali del Lean in materia di condivisione delle conoscenze, collaborazione e pianificazione dinamica, premiando i dipendenti che si sfidano all’esplorazione e all’utilizzo di nuovi modi di lavorare. Il primo premio è stato assegnato ad Anna-Siri Andersson per la sua capacità di completare le attività in modo da ridurre al minimo il rischio dei problemi dell'ultimo minuto.
