The treatment center facilitates communication with patients
Dentsply Sirona’s treatment centers are designed to integrate many functions and tools needed to perform to the highest standards. This article describes how the treatment center’s integration of imaging solutions helps improve patient communication and trust.
One of the advantages of having so many solutions under one roof is the ability for different business units to work together to create solutions that better serve the customer. An example of this comes from the integration of imaging solutions into the treatment center. Dentsply Sirona’s Heliodent x-ray unit can be mounted within the treatment center enabling chairside imaging. Patients do not even have to stand up and leave the room. This can be particularly advantageous in treatments where many x-rays are needed such as for endodontic treatment where requiring patients to get up multiple times would be considerably more complicated and inconvenient. Similarly, taking intraoral pictures can also be done chairside with the SiroCam giving patients the opportunity to see what the dentist sees.
At the recent Imaging Summer School in Bensheim, Dr. Freier, a dentist with her own practice in the town of Bad Soden, Germany, shared how the integration of imaging into the Dentsply Sirona treatment center benefits her patients and facilitates her ability to explain why she recommends a particular treatment. One example that she gave involved a patient who made an appointment to get a new crown.

The cavity under the old crown was so deep that we could not keep the tooth and suddenly the crown became an implant planning. Such a decision can quickly be perceived as a kind of rip off because it’s much more profitable for the dentist. But in this case, he could see the horrible state of the tooth and accepted the new planning with a good feeling and no discussions were necessary.
Sidexis 4 image processing software can be shown directly on the treatment center’s monitor. All x-ray photographs and intraoral pictures are combined in one program and can be used together for documentation and especially for explanation as the patient sits in the chair. Dr. Freier notes that, “I can choose special pictures or create sessions depending on the problem or the treatment. That’s very comfortable for me, because I do not have to search around in different systems the whole time.”
The treatment center is the focal point of the dental practice. Dentsply Sirona designs its units to facilitate patient communication with the dental professional. Improved communication leads to better comprehension of treatment plans and greater trust between patient and practitioner.
