Continuing in alphabetical order, this issue’s Focus on Strategic Business Units features the Endodontics SBU.
Acquisitions over time brought together three leaders in endodontics all under one roof: Tulsa Dental in the US, Maillefer in Switzerland and VDW in Germany. ATR in Italy and the latest acquisition of RTD in France have further strengthened the deep knowledge in Endo solutions. Today, the Endodontics SBU commercializes its solutions under two premium brands, Dentsply Sirona Endodontics and VDW. Dentsply Sirona Endodontics includes the legacies of the Maillefer and Tulsa brands. Together, the Endodontic SBU’s common vision is to save a tooth to improve a life.

Led by Valerie Baschet, Group Vice President, the team consists of over 1,500 employees working from six locations in five different countries (Switzerland, United States, Germany, Italy and France). The North America Endodontics sales organization (formerly known as Tulsa Dental) is part of the SBU structure in order to better take into account its business size and specificities of this particular market. Endodontics represents about 7% of the total dental market and Dentsply Sirona has an overall market share of 47%, making it the leader in the field. Embedded in the consumable segment (Preventive, Restorative, Endodontic, Instrument and Orthodontic) led by Bill Newell, the Endodontics SBU will have a pivotal role to leverage its position for the other SBUs while strengthening its own by expanding reach.
Impact through clinical affairs
Partnerships with key opinion leaders and the implementation of numerous clinical education events together with the RCOs are key success factors for the business. The SBU supports the dental research community and over 350 universities that are enrolled in a grant program establishing an important connection to higher education. VDW has its own network of KOLs and universities.
Taking advantage of synergies
All over the world and through the RCOs, Endodontics is supporting the development of commercial synergies and teamwork with other SBUs to develop solutions: the first ones include R2C™ (Root To Crown, further development of the Restodontics concept), and the 3D Endo software commercialized together with the Imaging SBU.
The Endodontics SBU aims to continue to grow its business with a goal to grow double digits year on year. In order to achieve this goal, the SBU will continue to focus on creating synergies to forge product and commercial links that better enable dental solutions. By providing differentiated and outstanding procedural solutions through an improved brand coverage, the Endodontics SBU will expand the market with innovative solutions that bring the value of endodontic treatment to patients and design the journey for better endodontic care in each country.
