Focus on the Implants SBU: Passion, partnership, professionalism
The Implants SBU has been a premium manufacturer in implant dentistry for over 40 years. Over 2,200 employees develop, produce and support first-class solutions backed by scientific evidence for implant dentistry clinics and professionals worldwide.
The Implants SBU is about more than simply selling implants. Rather, it’s about asking how it can help dentists treat their patients in the best way possible and to improve quality of life. The SBU’s employees have a passion for implant dentistry with a profound commitment to science, documentation, education and innovation as well as pride in developing comprehensive solutions. Together with dental professionals, they make the difference for patients every day. More than 2,000 scientific studies are the foundation of the products and solution portfolio that includes Ankylos, Astra Tech Implant System and Xive, three of the most well documented premium implant systems in the market today. The high quality implant systems are developed and produced in Mölndal (Sweden), and Hanau (Germany). There are also implant-related production sites in Waltham (USA), Tokyo (Japan) and Hasselt (Belgium). The SBU is led by Simon Fraser, who was appointed new Group Vice President in June 2018.
The digital workflow
The digital implant workflows by Dentsply Sirona show how digital technology can bring significant added value to dental professionals and practices. The combination of first class products and their seamless interaction make it an easy decision for clinicians who don’t have to worry about material specifications, compatibilities or interfaces as all components perfectly match one another. To further simplify this workflow, the Implants SBU developed Azento, a new solution that streamlines the planning, purchasing and delivery of single-tooth restorations. Azento contains all components and instruments required to complete an implant treatment, including a surgical guide, implant and custom healing abutment, all delivered within five business days of the approved treatment plan. This solution was introduced at the Dentsply Sirona World in Orlando and will be available in Europe and Canada in 2019.

Innovations in the product portfolio
The SBU recently launched its latest innovation, developed in cooperation with one of the world's most acknowledged implant dentistry professionals, Dr. Marco Degidi. Acuris represents the best of two worlds: a conometric retention that is removable for the dentist but fixed for the patient. At the “International Congress on Ankylos” in Berlin in June, dental professionals got a sneak peek at this new implant solution by trying it out on a model and discussing it with experts. This created a lot of interest in and buzz about the new product. The official launch took place at the annual scientific congress EAO, in Vienna, in October.
To show customers how The Implants SBU's products and solutions can help them to achieve excellent results for their patients, an extensive clinical education program is offered. Great examples are the company-hosted customer events, such as the World Summit Tour and the Ankylos Congress, with scientific lectures, live demonstrations and hands-on workshops. Continuous clinical training and education make a difference, nurturing the relationship with customers and differentiating Dentsply Sirona from its competitors. For example, at the dental implant treatment facility in Mölndal, the ability to witness live surgeries is a unique learning opportunity for visiting guests. In addition, guests are offered the possibility to tour the state-of-the-art Atlantis production, where patient-specific abutments are designed and manufactured. As one of the flagships in the Dentsply Sirona Academy, the dental clinic at the Mölndal Campus contains all the latest equipment available from Dentsply Sirona—including CEREC Omnicam AC, CEREC MC XL Milling machine and CEREC SpeedFire.

Arranged by the Implants SBU, the very successful World Summit Tour made stops in four cities around the globe and was designed to inspire clinicians and researchers to share scientific knowledge and clinical experience and discover the latest developments in implant dentistry. By combining general sessions, hands-on workshops, and a choice of parallel sessions, the program delivered inspiration and education for all members of the treatment team.
Solutions to satisfy rising expectations
The Implants SBU aims to fulfill the different needs and requirements of all parties involved in the various facets of implant dentistry. The Implants SBU refers to this as “connecting the dots.” Patients are becoming more informed and approaching practices with corresponding expectations. Digital technologies offer an increasing number of possibilities but not all solutions are required for every indication. It is therefore a question of intelligent, logical concepts that simply function and improve the predictability of treatments.
This includes not only implants themselves, but also regenerative products, like bone graft materials, resorbable and non-resorbable membranes as well as corresponding instruments. Furthermore, this includes restorative solutions such as patient-specific abutments, crowns and bridges which can be ordered worldwide via Atlantis from the Implants SBU.
