After a year of preparation and collaboration between the Endodontic and Restorative SBUs’ Marketing, Clinical Affairs and Marketing Communications teams, R2C™, the Root to Crown Solution was rolled out at the IDS.
R2C™, the Root to Crown provides state-of-the-art products and procedural guidance from diagnosis and treatment planning to the final coronal restoration. The backbone of the concept is the clinical storyline which is at the center of the CE curriculum, marketing collateral, compatible products and go-tomarket strategy.
This really is a complete mind shift to move away from a product-centric view on Endo and Resto towards looking at an integrated clinical treatment solution, like our customers do every day.

During the IDS, Market Development Managers from both SBUs took part in a workshop focused on the execution of the concept. Phase 1 markets include Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, Nordics, Iberia and Italy. In the United States and Canada there will be CE focus only. Phase 2 markets are in preparation.
Three training webinars for key opinion leaders (KOLs) and an on-site training session in Ballaigues have taken place on the new CE curriculum, which is comprised of the below teaser film and a complete procedural curriculum broken down into independent modules.

RTD Acquisition
On April 3rd, Dentsply Sirona acquired RTD, the pioneer and worldwide leader in the conception and manufacturing of fiber- reinforced composite posts. The company, based near Grenoble, France, has a strong new product pipeline and will become part of the Endodontics SBU. RTD’s unique, high quality and innovative offering perfectly complements our new R2C™ Root to Crown Solution and will enable us to provide dental professionals with a more complete end-to-end solution for better, safer and faster root canals and tooth restoration. X-Smart IQ Launch in North America
New X-Smart IQ™ Video
X-Smart IQ was launched in 2015 in Europe and has been deployed around the world since then.
With about 4,000 units on the market today, this new piece of equipment is much more than a new motor: it is the beginning of a new era for a new line of Endodontic Equipment. An era in which customers get frequent upgrades through the App, a guarantee to always have the latest file library, possibilities for analysis and storing treatment data. It even gives them a chance to interact with customers through the Education module.
The most recent milestone for this global deployment was the launch in North America, held on April 26th at the AAE show in New Orleans. The North American team has done a tremendous job in preparing the launch and we are eager to let our customers experience this new device.
X-Smart IQ™
A continuous and reciprocating motion cordless motor controlled by an Apple iOS® application.
X-Smart IQ being the first stone of the IQ ecosystem, more devices are being developed:
Propex IQ, the apex locator is scheduled to launch in Q1 2018
A cordless obturation device will be launched towards the end of 2018.

Instruments at IDS
It is now approaching three months since I moved to Switzerland to join the Endodontic SBU and time has certainly flown by!
I had the pleasure of joining this team just ahead of the IDS, which provided me with a great opportunity to meet many of my new colleagues for the first time and to be part of what was our first opportunity to showcase the Dentsply Sirona Endodontics brand to our end-users and distributors.
Our marcom teams efforts certainly paid-off, with an excellent stand - one we could all be proud of!
From an Instruments Platform perspective, in addition to the launch of the Dentsply Sirona Endodontic brand, IDS provided us with an opportunity to showcase two new products within the glide path category to compliment the already successful ProGlider.
The glide path category continues to demonstrate strong growth for Dentsply Sirona supported by our Clinical Education initiatives and sales force globally.
Under the Dentsply Sirona brand, clinicians had their first opportunity to experience WaveOne Gold Glider, our first reciprocating glide path file introduced to compliment the WaveOne Gold range. WaveOne Gold Glider was extremely well received by clinicians at the show and with commercialisation of the brand expected to commence in May 2017, we expect a strong start and significant success during the coming year. Under our VDW brand, clinicians also had the first chance to trial our new R-Pilot file, the first motor driven glide path instrument in reciprocating motion to be offered by VDW. Again, initial feedback has been fantastic and with over €100K of sales since launch, the VDW team should be congratulated for a strong start. Well done to Ariane Papazoglou, Sarah Waldmann and Martin Karle’s team for their work on these launches.

Work remains ongoing globally, to upgrade users from our legacy file brands such as ProTaper Universal to ProTaper Next, with ProTaper Gold an option for those that wish to maintain the current sequence, and WaveOne Gold. This upgrade of users to new brands forms one of the key objectives for the Instruments Platform and Market Development teams for 2017. Similarly, in line with this objective the VDW team is also enjoying continuing success with RECIPROC Blue since its launch in quarter three 2016, with sales in quarter one 2017 already exceeding sales in the final two quarters of 2016.
The Instruments Platform team is also currently finalising a project, led by Camille D’Halluin, to extend our M-access stainless steel hand-file range. This will mean that the M-access brand will now include K-Flexofiles in addition to K-Files and Hedstroem files. M-access has played an important role in helping to drive growth for the endodontic SBU across the economic opportunity markets, with the M-access range demonstrating 26% growth between 2015 and 2016. We expect similarly strong results during 2017. Both our M-access and READY•STEEL hand file ranges continue to show good result following the phased discontinuation of Colorinox.
Finally, from a personal perspective, my sincere thanks to everyone for making my transition from the Middle East North Africa RCO to working here at the Endodontic SBU such a pleasure. It is great to be part of this winning team.
