Forjando lazos para la próxima generación de dentistas restaurativos
El concurso anual para estudiantes de odontología estética concluyó con la invitación para los tres ganadores a viajar a Madrid, España, para presentar sus trabajos en un congreso de especialistas.
El Global Clinical Case Contest (GCCC) es un concurso anual de odontología estética organizado por Dentsply Sirona Restorative. Los estudiantes universitarios y de posgrado con menos de dos años de experiencia en práctica clínica pueden participar documentando el caso de un paciente en formato estandarizado con fotografías y texto. Se permite a las universidades hasta tres propuestas cada una. Normalmente, la universidad designa a un tutor para que apoye a sus estudiantes en todo el proceso. Si es necesario, los estudiantes tienen acceso a toda la línea de productos Dentsply Sirona Restorative para su participación en el GCCC.
Los casos se inscriben en sus respectivos concursos nacionales o regionales donde se seleccionan los ganadores. Los ganadores se clasifican para el concurso mundial. Este año, trece finalistas llegaron a Konstanz, Alemania, el 6 de junio. El jurado formado por Dr. Rainer Seemann, Vice President Global Clinical Affairs, y dos expertos externos: Dr. Gaetano Paolone de Italia y Dr. Ian Cline del Reino Unido. Juntos seleccionaron a los tres ganadores.
Uwe Walker (University of Tübingen, Alemania) ganó el primer premio por la corrección estética y funcional de varios defectos dentales erosivos-abrasivos. El segundo premio para Yannis Génique (University of Bordeaux, Francia) por su caso de diseño de sonrisa anterior que incluía la reconstruccion de un incisivo lateral riziforme y la sustitución de varias restauraciones de composite viejas. El tercer premio fue para Mariangela Cernera (University of Naples Federico II, Italia) por su caso de renovación de varias restauraciones grandes de composite de Clase II en la región posterior. Los ganadores recibieron como regalo una lámpara SmartLite Procuring grabada individualmente. Al preguntarle qué le motivó a participar en el concurso, el ganador, el Sr. Walker, respondió que "el caso tenía mucho potencial debido a los diversos aspectos del tratamiento. También fue útil para el paciente que no podía permitirse una rehabilitación completa sin participar en la competencia".
Gnadores viajan a Madrid
Los tres ganadores de GCCC 2019 fueron invitados a la Continental European Division del congreso de International Association for Dental Research en Madrid en septiembre. Debido a las circunstancias, sólo Mariangela Cernera pudo asistir en persona.
Casi 4,000 estudiantes de odontología han participado en GCCC desde su inicio en 2004. Este año se celebra la 14ª edición del concurso y Dentsply Sirona ha recibido 1,242 solicitudes de un total de 140 universidades de todo el mundo. La competencia es una excelente forma de apoyar la próxima generación de dentistas y presentarles el innovador portafolio de soluciones restaurativas de la empresa. También ayuda a aumentar el interés en compartir estudios de casos y da a los estudiantes la oportunidad de practicar su técnica de presentación.
