211 centros de tratamiento Sinius especiales para la Universidad Otago
La formación y educación de la próxima generación de profesionales es parte importante para mejorar la salud bucal en todo el mundo. La Universidad Otago en Nueva Zelanda eligió a Dentsply Sirona para la creación de una nueva instalación.
La ciudad de Dunedin ubicada en la costa centro-oriental de Otago, rodeada de restos de un volcán extinto. Dunedin, la segunda ciudad más grande de la isla sur de Nueva Zelanda, sede de la universidad más antigua del país, la Universidad de Otago, la cual está en proceso de mejorar su facultad de odontología a través de un Proyecto de dos fases de 130 millones de dólares neozelandeses (85 millones de dólares). La primera fase, apenas finalizada, consistió en la creación de una instalación de alta tecnología de cuatro pisos con tecnología CAD/CAM, una sala de evaluación y extracción, otra de radiografías y una gran cantidad de naves de tratamiento para los estudiantes y para los 70,000 pacientes registrados en la clínica universitaria.
Fue increíble trabajar en este proyecto para la Universidad Otago. Pudimos darle no sólo el equipo que necesitaban de acuerdo con sus requerimientos, sino también la experiencia de ayudarles a lograr su visión de una instalación de clase mundial, diferente de cualquier otra escuela de odontología en el mundo. Su idea de construir todo en base a la experiencia del paciente, encajó con nuestro propio compromiso de poner al cliente en primer lugar.
En 2018, la Universidad Otago lanzó una licitación para equipar su nueva clínica dental. La universidad quería algo único entre las escuelas de odontología, construyendo sus nuevas instalaciones totalmente en base a la experiencia del paciente. La elección de Dentsply Sirona se debe al talento del equipo de International Special Clinic Solutions, el único capaz de ofrecer una solución completa desde el principio y de proveer todo el equipo necesario. Peter Rössling, Director International Special Clinic Solutions, viajó de un lado a otro entre Bensheim, Alemania, y Dunedin para entender las necesidades del equipo universitario y asesorarles sobre el proyecto.
La nueva instalación estaría equipada con 211 nuevos centros de tratamiento Sinius, así como una silla bariátrica que tenía que satisfacer necesidades muy específicas y permitir que todos los servicios estuvieran conectados a los estándares de Nueva Zelanda para su sistema de registros médicos electrónicos. Los centros de tratamiento debían estar hechos en base a los requisitos de la Facultad de Odontología para que se ajustaran no sólo a la odontología general, sino también a la ortodoncia, la pediatría y otras especialidades. Se eligieron los centros de tratamiento de Sinius y Dentsply Sirona proporcionó todo el equipo necesario para la clínica. Además de los centros de tratamiento, se usará una gama de cerca de 2,000 instrumentos de Dentsply Sirona, así como equipos de imágenes en 3D y 2D.
Antes de crear este gran pedido en Bensheim, se probó a fondo un prototipo en una maqueta de las nuevas naves de tratamiento para garantizar funcionen bien para el personal y los estudiantes, ya que los centros de tratamiento serían esenciales para el entorno de enseñanza, como para el desempeño de sus funciones usuales.
El diseño de las nuevas instalaciones beneficia a pacientes y médicos por igual.
Centros de tratamiento innovadores y funcionales
Cada centro de tratamiento Sinius tiene una computadora integrada, que permite ver en la pantalla los registros de los pacientes, los resultados de las radiografías y los escáneres digitales. Las unidades tienen un sistema computarizado de autolimpieza para asegurar se sigan los estándares de prevención de infecciones y se cumplan totalmente. Los centros de tratamiento son supervisados por el software de gestión de sillas (Vionex) para que cualquier necesidad de mantenimiento pueda ser atendida rápidamente.
La nueva instalación tiene la estructura y el equipo para trabajar con registros electrónicos de pacientes conectados al sistema Titanium de Nueva Zelanda. Hasta hoy, la clínica sólo mantenía electrónicamente los nombres de pacientes, los datos de contacto y los registros financieros. Todo lo demás requería que los archivos en papel se llevaran de un lado a otro cuando los pacientes eran evaluados y tratados. Los registros electrónicos son eficientes desde el punto de vista del médico para asegurar un mejor control académico que asegure que los estudiantes traten a un grupo diverso de pacientes y casos para llenar cualquier vacío en su capacitación. Los pacientes también se benefician de la transparencia de saber cuánto va a costar su tratamiento y de poder discutirlo antes. Por supuesto, la protección de datos se garantiza en todo momento.
El diseño del nuevo edificio es acogedor y abierto, y ofrece privacidad a los pacientes. El diseño está enfocado en hacer que la experiencia del paciente sea increíble, permitiendo una mayor colaboración dentro de la escuela a través de las disciplinas. Esto ayuda a la universidad a crear nuevos planes de studio fácilmente a medida que la tecnología avanza y las disciplinas crecen.
Dentsply Sirona se encargó del proyecto desde las primeras fases hasta la gran apertura.
Logística de instalación de más de 200 centros de tratamiento
Los nuevos centros de tratamiento se instalan en los tres primeros pisos del nuevo edificio. El primer piso es para las oficinas de trabajo especializados, y en el segundo y tercer piso se encuentran las áreas de tratamiento para el público y donde los estudiantes trabajarán. Dentsply Sirona traslado a Bensheim a gente de una empresa local de ingeniería médica experimentada para capacitación sobre la instalación de los centros de tratamiento. Al acercarse el día de la inauguración, los técnicos de Alemania que son parte del Equipo de Proyectos Especiales se unieron al esfuerzo y pasaron dos meses en Nueva Zelanda. Dentsply Sirona también capacitó a un grupo de superusuarios en el uso de los centros de tratamiento de vanguardia y sus equipos relacionados. Estos superusuarios organizaron sesiones de formación para otros miembros del personal y estudiantes.
Fue un proyecto increíble, no sólo por su escala sino por su impacto potencial. El personal y los estudiantes de la clínica de la Universidad de Otago realizan cerca de 76,000 tratamientos al año. Ofrecer equipos de vanguardia que permitan la mejor atención posible al paciente y a su vez facilitar una educación de alta calidad para la próxima generación de dentistas es un esfuerzo digno. Viendo hacia el futuro, el International Special Clinic Solutions Team pretende usar su trabajo con la Universidad de Otago como modelo para ayudar a facultades de odontología de todo el mundo a modernizar sus instalaciones y reorientar la experiencia clínica hacia los pacientes.
