Bring out the best in our people
As part of our commitment to bringing out the best in our people we catch up with Maialen Sotes (Territory Sales Representative) who recently attended a course on 'High Impact Presentations'.
Read the Q&A below:
What was the highlight of the training for you?
- The training took the current skills and strengths I had and elevated them to a different level, to a quality that I am proud of sharing.
- While you were giving the presentations they provided live feedback and coaching which helped you in real time to see the improvement.
- Incremental changes and shifts make a huge difference in the end to the final delivery of the planned presentation.
- Key point for me - when sharing your message, make sure you share it like a story to connect with the audience.
What were the main skills that you learned?
- Body language - how I move, how I bring energy to the room and where I keep my hands when delivering a presentation is important.
- How to control nerves and your breath when speaking in a calm and relaxed manner, through focusing on each word that you say and expressing the message to the audience so that it does not come across as closed, but more open and relaxed.
- Connecting with your audience is of utmost importance and it's not what we say, but the way we say something.
How can this training help you in your client-facing sales role?
- To be able to give a consistent message, however tailor it to the needs of the dentist so that I address the dentists needs and not push our own agenda.
- To adjust the quality of the message through the self-awareness, by taking into account the tone, the non-verbal body language and the actual message we want to deliver.
- To connect with my client. They shouldn't feel like I am pushing products, they should feel that I am building a relationship with them and wanting the best for their needs.
What are you doing differently since the training?
I can already see changes in the way I connect with people in general, and I am more self-aware.
Another approach is how I deal with difficult questions. I am frequently dealing with these questions but I feel more confident to do this now. The training was a breath of fresh air and I am so grateful to the company for sending me on this training and investing in my skills to improve the experience we are giving our customers.
What advise would you give people who are presenting or connecting with people?
- Be self-aware of your body language and how you come across.
- Make contact with the audience with eye contact and have a clear message.
- Voice projection and tone is important. Be aware of your audience and message when presenting.
- Articulation of words is important in relation to your audience.
- Just breath and have fun whilst doing it. The audience or your customer will be able to feel your energy and presence.
